The Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica is one of the most luxurious resorts in Central America. Located on the Papagayo Peninsula, this 5-star resort sprawls across 45 acres of the jungle. Guests have private access to two beaches, four swimming pools, a world-class spa, an 18-hole golf course, multiple dining options, and complimentary classes and activities.

Four Seasons Resorts are known for having luxurious properties, but I was most impressed by the phenomenal service. When you arrive, you are greeted by name, welcomed with fresh coconut water, and offered a chilled towel! Also, every single staff member is extremely friendly. Not only do they stop to say hello, but they inquire about your day and ask if there iss anything you need. These small interactions differentiate between a good resort and a great one. The Four Seasons Costa Rica does a fantastic job of creating a warm and welcoming environment that genuinely makes you feel at home – something many in the hospitality industry cannot accomplish.

I spent two nights at the Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica, and my only regret is that I didn’t stay longer. This resort ranks high amongst the properties I’ve stayed at, so I know I’ll be back sometime soon. But next time, I’ll be sure to book an entire week!

Accomodations

As a luxury resort, the Four Seasons Costa Rica has top-of-the-line accommodations. With over 180 guest rooms, suites, and private residence villas, you will find the perfect place to relax and enjoy your time in paradise. I enjoyed staying in one of the Terraza Guest Rooms during my visit.

Located on the bottom floor, the Terraza Rooms were designed after the treehouse concept with hardwood floors, natural fabrics, exotic colors, and outdoor living spaces. The room features two double or a king-sized bed, a full marble bathroom including a shower and tub, and a private patio with gorgeous views of the native tropical landscape. I was lucky enough to have partial views of the ocean!

Guest rooms also come with 100% cotton robes, tea and coffee service featuring coffee from Costa Rica, Ortigia bath amenities, a hairdryer, bottled water, and a plasma TV. Some other perks include twice-daily housekeeping service, evening turndown service, ice delivery, self-service washers and dryers with eco-friendly detergent, overnight shoeshine service, and 24-hour in-room dining.

Everything was perfect for my stay in the Terraza Room, from the design of the room to the service provided. One of my favorite things was opening the patio doors in the early morning. There’s nothing quite as relaxing as listening to the waves crash against the shore while lying in bed, wrapped in light cotton sheets.

Activites at the Four Seasons Costa Rica

At the Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica, there are endless opportunities for fun and adventure! At check-in, you’ll receive a daily schedule with activities listed for the duration of your stay. The best part is that over 25 of these activities are complimentary, while others only require a small fee. So if you want to do more than lounge by the pool with a drink in your hand, here are some fun things to do around the property!

Surf Lessons. The Four Seasons Resort is the closest resort to the renowned waves of Witch’s Rock and Ollies Point, making it the perfect place to learn how to surf! The instructors at the luxury surf school Tropicsurf will quickly have you up and riding the waves in no time!

Morning Snorkel Tours. This 9:00 am tour is the perfect way to start your day! You’ll enter the bay from Playa Blanca (located on the property) and swim out into the bay. If the conditions are just right, the water will be clear enough for you to see colorful fish and beautiful coral reefs! Your guide will always be with you, sharing their knowledge of the Gulf of Papagayo and the surrounding marine life.

Bird Watching Tours. Due to Costa Rica’s location between the Americas, it is home to many tropical birds. During this tour, you’ll set out with a local guide and discover different species around the resort, like parrots, manakins, antbirds, robins, and trogons.

Guided Nature Hikes. The Papagayo Peninsula boasts a lush tropical landscape home to over 400 wildlife species. There are easy hikes along flat and well-maintained trails and more challenging treks for those looking for a little more adventure. The resort offers four hikes: Sunrise, Sunset, Mangrove, and Foreverwell. These guided hikes are a fun and educational way to safely explore the property on foot – perfect for children ages 12+.

Trail of the Giants Golf Course Tour. This is the best way to explore the Papagayo Peninsula and one of the most fun activities. Starting from the reception, you’ll ride a shuttle to the clubhouse, select a golf cart, and head out to explore the golf course. During this tour, your guide will stop at specific areas to share information about the local vegetation and wildlife. You may see some White-faced and Howler monkeys in the tall trees along the trail if you’re lucky!

Golf. The Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica course is a golfer’s dream. This par-72 championship course was designed by the legendary Arnold Palmer and offers some of the most spectacular ocean views of the Papagayo Peninsula. There is also a driving range, a sand-bunker practice area, and putting and chipping greens. Rates are $175 for 9 holes and $240 for 18 holes.

Chocolate Making Class. If you’re addicted to chocolate, this is one activity you cannot miss! The hands-on class takes you step-by-step through the chocolate-making process. You’ll learn how to roast, peel, and grind the cacao beans, but more importantly, you’ll get to eat the delicious treats after class.

Folkloric Dance Class. Learn all about the Punto Guanacasteco folk dance by listening to the music and following the steps of your instructors. The Punto Guanacasteco is considered the national dance, so this is a great interactive way to discover Costa Rican culture.

Star Gazing. While you can easily walk down to the beach late at night and stargaze alone, doing this as a resort activity is fun and informative. The guides point out constellations and let you peer through telescopes to get a closer view of the celestial bodies. Yes, the photo I took below while stargazing is enhanced, but you can see many stars with the naked eye!

Moonlit Kayak Tour. While the Four Season Resort offers seven kayak tours, I think the moonlit tour is the most unique! After sunset, you’ll meet with a guide and kayak out to Blanca Bay. The kayaks are retrofitted with LED lights for you to be able to see around and below the board. The marine life may not be as active now, but kayaking underneath the stars and taking in the beautiful night views is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Restaurants at the Four Seasons Costa Rica

Bahia – This is the perfect place to have breakfast, lunch, or dinner outside, with views of the pool and the Gulf of Papagayo. The food is fantastic, and I love that all ingredients are locally sourced. I especially enjoyed the variety of pastries in the breakfast buffet and the grilled beef burger for dinner. Oh, and don’t leave before trying their freshly made passionfruit juice! I drank multiple cups every morning, and to this day, I still crave it. If only they had delivered!

Añejo – If you’re looking to grab a breakfast bite to go or share some tapas with friends in the late afternoon, try Añejo. The open patio and light breeze add to its relaxing atmosphere during the day, but once the sun goes down and the drinks start flowing, it’s the perfect place to party.

Pesce – Featuring classic Italian cuisine and an extensive wine list, Pesce offers guests an evening of elegance. The dimly lit lights and panoramic ocean views create an intimate environment and romantic atmosphere – perfect for couples. There are so many great dishes to choose from; however, I recommend the Cioppino (catch of the day, shrimp, clams, sundried tomatoes, and grilled bread) and the Carpaccio Manzo (beef tenderloin, arugula salad, shaved grana padano, and truffle oil).

Nemare – Located at the Peninsula Papagayo golf clubhouse, Nemare offers lunch and dinner. The menu resembles a steakhouse, featuring craft cocktails, soups, salads, and grilled/smoked entrees. So, if you’re looking for the best steak on the property, check out Nemare.

Accomodations

Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort has 350 luxury guestrooms and suites offering a variety of views of the property, Sandia Mountains, or Twin Warriors Golf Course. At Tamaya Resort, I was lucky enough to stay in the 2-queen-bed Mountain View Room, specifically room 2139.

All of their rooms and suites showcase southwest designs, created with natural materials, and feature premium amenities such as the plush Hyatt Euro Pillowtop Posturepedic bed, flat-screen TVs, refrigerator, coffee maker, iHome alarm clock radio, free Wi-Fi, Pharmacopia bath products, and a spacious bathroom.

My room also had an oversized work area and a full balcony with the most incredible view of the Sandia Mountains. I honestly think room 2139 might be the best in the hotel just because of the view!

Activities at Tamaya Resort and Spa

Go for a swim. New Mexico’s sunny weather is perfect! So naturally, Tamaya Resort has a few different pool options for those wanting to work on their tan. The main pool is near the Plaza Grill and has a slide and lounge chairs with umbrellas – perfect for families. The resort also offers an ‘adults only’ pool for those wanting peace.

Bike solo or on a guided tour around the property. There are a few different bike trails throughout the Tamaya property. My favorite was the Bosque trail. On this 1 mile ride, you’ll bike along the Rio Grande River underneath a canopy of cottonwood trees. Be aware and on the lookout for local wildlife. You might see wild turkeys, skunks, bullfrogs, rattlesnakes, and more.

Sign up for the Srai Wi Cultural Activities. Srai Wi means “my children” in the Keresan language, the original language of the Tamaya people. The cultural staff of Tamaya Resort curates Srai Wi activities to offer guests of all ages creative, unique, and authentic learning experiences. There are many activities, but some of my favorites are adobe brick making and pueblo oven bread baking! For a full list of activities and the daily schedule, click here.

Tour the Tamaya Cultural Learning Center. Located in the Plaza of the Generations at the Tamaya Hotel, the Tamaya Cultural Learning Center showcases the Santa Ana Pueblo community’s tribal history. If you’re interested in visiting, schedule a tour at the front desk. What makes this tour unique is that it is hosted by a tribe member, who is happy to answer questions you may have about their way of life.

Find Tranquility at the Tamaya Mist Spa & Salon. Complete with a locker room, hot tub, sauna, showers, and relaxation room, this 5-star facility provides everything you need to relax. There are a variety of treatments to choose from, but I recommend the hot-stone massage! The heat from the natural stones and oil truly puts your body into deep relaxation. As a plus, my masseuse, Anne, learned I had lower back pain and was able to focus on those problem areas till the pain disappeared.

Play a few rounds at the Twin Warriors Golf Course. This 18-hole championship course has hosted the 2003 and 2009 PGA Professional National Championship. Surrounded by 20 ancient cultural sites of the Santa Ana Pueblo people and the Sandia Mountains, the Twin Warrior Golf Course is both a beautiful and spiritual experience. The course itself is a high desert landscape featuring grassy knolls, ridges dotted with Juniper and Pinon Pine, dry washes, and eroded land features.

Horseback ride through the desert. The Tamaya Horse Rehab embodies the Tamayame’s respect for their land and living creatures. They do so by taking in neglected, abused, unwanted, and abandoned horses and rehabilitating them. You can ride your bike down to the stables to see these gorgeous horses or go on a trail ride for $75 per person.

Explore the Land of Enchantment on a guided tour with NM Jeep Tours. They offer a variety of tours that showcase the natural landscape, ancestral ruins, historic homesteads, petroglyphs, petrified forests, and hidden geological marvels. A jeep tour is the best way to see the beauty of New Mexico.

Watch the sunrise during a hot air balloon ride with Rainbow Ryder. Rainbow Ryders was excellent from start to finish. I was nervous about flying, but they made me feel comfortable the entire time, and our pilot was a total comedian. There’s nothing quite like floating in the sky above Albuquerque. The views of the Rio Grande River Valley and the Sandia Mountains from a bird ‘ s-eye view are breathtaking!

Experience a Feast Day. When the Spanish came to New Mexico in the 1500s, they brought their Roman Catholic traditions. While their missionaries converted many Native Americans, Native beliefs and customs were preserved and intertwined with Catholic beliefs. Today, feast days are both a celebration of ancient Native American heritage and commemorations of Catholic saints. On August 28, you can go to the Santa Ana Pueblo’s Feast Day, close to the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa. At the Santa Ana Pueblo, you will see traditional dances, cultural activities, food, and vendors selling arts and crafts. It’s a wonderful way for visitors to witness Pueblo life and the traditions of the Santa Ana Pueblo people. For a list of all feast days, click here.

Restaurants at Tamaya Resort and Spa

At Hyatt Regency Tamaya, there are a lot of great dining options ranging from casual to fine dining.

Santa Ana Cafe is the go-to place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Play it safe with classic American dishes or spice up your life with local New Mexico classics; either is a great option! I ate there at least once every day and ALWAYS left satisfied. My favorite items were the Blue Corn Chicken Enchiladas and the Maple Root cocktail.

Rio Grande Lounge – Relax with friends with a drink in hand while sharing delicious foods and enjoying the beautiful sunset views of the Sandia Mountains. From late afternoon until midnight, the Rio Grande Lounge is a popular hangout amongst guests. Some nights they even have live music, so be sure to stop by.

Corn Maiden – Be sure to have dinner here at least once during your stay. The food is unbelievable! With entrees such as Native Beef Short Rib, Beef Filet, Scallops and Prawns, and Stuffed Poblano, it’s near impossible to choose just one. I went with the beef filet, and it was the juiciest, most flavorful filet I’ve ever had! 10/10 would recommend! Corn Maiden is open Friday and Saturday from 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm so be sure to make a reservation.

Plaza Grill – Situated right next to the pool, the Plaza Grill offers light meals such as salads, chips and salsa, and sandwiches. Before you head back to your lounge chair, grab a cocktail to stay refreshed.

Trading Post – Open 6:00 am till 8:00 pm, the Trading Post is your go-to shop for miscellaneous items. This general store is stocked with golf shirts, workout clothes, souvenirs, medicine, snacks, specialty New Mexico foods, and coffee.

Atush Bar & Grille – Enjoy a light breakfast or lunch with views of the Twin Warriors Golf Course at this relaxing bar and grill. The menu mainly consists of light fare appetizers, burgers, and wraps. Since the restaurant is separate from the resort, you can either walk to it or ask the valet to drive you.

Barnsley Resort offers wonderful accommodations either at their three-story Inn or the cottages. With 150 rooms to choose from, you’re bound to find one that fits your every need. During my time at Barnsley, I had the pleasure of staying at one of the charming cottage suites.

The Cottage Suites feature hardwood or carpeted floors, private porches, a master bedroom, en-suite bathrooms, and a separate living area. They also come with a king bed, 32″ HDTV, wood-burning fireplace, and clawfoot bathtub. It’s these details that give the cottages a luxurious, yet homey feel.

My favorite part about the cottage was the porch swing! There’s nothing more relaxing than sitting on your front porch while sipping a glass of wine and watching the sunset. Don’t you agree?

Activities at Barnsley Resort

Horseback riding. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced rider, horseback riding through Barnsley Resort’s 3000 acres is a must! The horses are sweet, our guides were knowledgeable, and the grounds were beautiful. This really is the most fun way to explore Barnsley!

Interact with fun animals at Barnsley Barnyard. And by fun animals, I mean miniature horses, donkeys, and goats. When I was there, they actually had baby goats! Seriously, it is cuteness overload at the barnyard! Many of us probably don’t have access to a farm or barn, so if you’re an animal lover and staying at Barnsley, don’t miss out on this experience.

Hiking through the woodlands. Feeling the urge to stretch your legs? Hike the many trails around the property. You’re sure to find yourself amongst Georgia’s finest foliage and may even see a few animals along the way.

Bike around the property. I actually recommend doing this right after check-in to help you get better acquainted with the property. Just grab one of the many colorful cruisers next to the Outpost General Store and pedal away. And bring your camera! I promise you’ll stop every few hundred feet to take pictures of the quaint streets, historic buildings, and beautiful views.

Check out the manor house ruins. The ruins and garden are hard to miss and even more difficult to forget once you learn about the history that surrounds them. Be sure to visit the museum and talk to resident historian Clent Coker. He is an amazing story-teller and will leave you hanging onto every word as he delivers the tales of love, war, tragedy, and murder that surround Barnsley Manor. Mr. Coker’s great-great-grandfather worked with Godfrey Barnsley on the construction of Barnsley Manor, and his great-grandmother was born on the Woodlands estate just before the Civil War! How cool that his own family is part of the property’s history!

Clay Shooting at High Adventure Shooting Grounds was my favorite activity at Barnsley Resort! I’ve actually gone clay shooting before but never on a real course! Barnsley’s Shooting Grounds offer two 14-station clay courses with a diverse layout of shots in the open field, under a natural canopy of woods and over water. Not only was it thrilling to channel my inner Annie Oakley but to do so in such an idyllic environment made everything that much better.

Golf. I am by no means a skilled golfer. In fact, I’ve actually given up any attempt to better myself in the game after I dented my husband’s driver. But if I had a knack for golf, I would have played on Barnsley’s Jim Fazio designed golf course. Their beautiful course is situated on a rolling 378 acres around the lake, forest, and gardens of Barnsely Resort. No wonder it’s one of the most sought-after golf courses in Georgia.

Kayak or canoe on the lake. What better way to enjoy beautiful blue skies and sunshine than on the water? If the weather permits, either walk along the golf course path or take a golf cart around the lake. You’ll come across a little area along the shore with canoes and kayaks. Take your pick and enjoy the ride!

Beer Garden – Looking for a casual dining experience? The Beer Garden is where it’s at! Grab yourself a beer, order a panini, and enjoy your meal under a canopy of trees and twinkling lights. Once you’re done, play a game of cornhole. . . or two. . . or three.

Rice House – You’ll have a very unique fine dining experience at this 19th-century farmhouse turned restaurant. Chef Jason Starnes, Chef Evan Babb, and their team do an incredible job providing guests with a ‘yard to fork’ experience. Their goal is to create dishes with ingredients from local farms. I admire restaurants that choose to do this because not only are they providing the freshest food for their guest, but they are supporting local businesses. Obviously, the food was incredible! Chef Evan prepared for us an all vegan meal that was paired with a variety of wines by certified sommelier Jon Mattson. Drinks, food, and friends. All the ingredients for a wonderful dinner.

1. Easy Booking & Checking-In Process

If you are a new reader or just haven’t read ALL my blog posts, you should know this is not my first rodeo with Kivoya. Over the past couple of years, we have rented numerous properties through Kivoya in one of our favorite places: Puerto Penasco, Mexico. You can read that blog here. This means I’ve done the whole booking and checking-in thing with Kivoya many times.

Whether it was Spain or Mexico, booking the property was easier than on Airbnb and quicker than with any hotel chain I’ve used, but what really sold me was the check-in process.

One of my biggest pet peeves is traveling across the world just to wait in line to check into my hotel room. Kivoya eliminates this entire experience. With either a dedicated doorman or someone to meet you at your rental property (to show you all the cool gadgets and gizmos), you feel like you are being welcomed by family.

2. Modern, Luxury Property

My second favorite thing about Kivoya is that ALL of their properties are amazing.

For example, Madrid isn’t known for having much space. However, the Condo San Bernardino features three bedrooms, two full baths, a modern kitchen and dining room, a living room with a TV and projector, a balcony with street views, and a laundry machine.

Kivoya even provided us with sample-sized soap products (nicer than any I’ve seen in a hotel under five stars).

If you want to enjoy your vacation without suffering through another dingy VRBO or hotel room, Kivoya is the answer with its amazingly beautiful properties.

3. Concierge Service

Kivoya goes beyond just offering you a place to stay. In fact, Kivoya lets you select items from the grocery store, and they will stock the refrigerator before you arrive! It’s amazing! You don’t have to go out and hunt down the local market or haggle with someone who speaks a different language; they’ll do all that for you!

Of course, if you want to do your own grocery shopping, the concierge service is purely optional.

Tip: There is a great grocery store less than a block away from the condo!

4. Location, Location, Location

The Malasana Neighborhood is full of amazing restaurants and bars that you must experience.

One of the favorites we visited was the 1862 Dry Bar, which is only a 5-minute walk from the Kivoya apartment. 1862 is ranked among the best cocktail bars in Madrid. It is owned by two friends, Alberto and Jorge, who are some of the nicest people we met during our time in Europe. If you are looking for a delicious cocktail or just want to chat with some friendly faces, head to 1862 Dry Bar.

If you’ve had your fill of food and drink, some of Madrid’s famous landmarks like the Temple of Debod, Parque de Madrid, and Palacio Real de Madrid are only a scenic 15-minute walk away. Take a stroll and see the city.

Tip: You can use the Metro fairly easily in Madrid, and if you stay at the Kivoya property, you are within a 2-minute walking distance of a Metro stop. I do not recommend driving in Madrid, but if you are road tripping around Spain (like we were), just park your car in one of the garages ($24 per day), or it’s free to park along the street on Saturday and Sunday (finding a spot can be tricky).

A cornerstone of Scottsdale for nearly ten decades, the Royal Palms Resort & Spa is one of my favorite and most luxurious hotel stays to date.

The resort was founded in 1929, as a private winter home of Delos Cooke’s family (any Westworld watchers out there? *cough* Delos *cough*). The home was created after Delos’ retirement, which he romantically said he was retiring to, “devote most of my time to the welfare and happiness of my wife from now on. She has first claim on me.” The resort’s style and architecture were inspired by Spain’s Andalusia, with flourishes of Mexico’s hacienda and Spanish Colonial styles. The final result was a beautiful Spanish Revival villa with white plaster over brick, Granada-tiled roofs, elaborately grilled windows and doorways, and elegant archways.

Over the years, the Royal Palms Resort has had several owners and now stands as one of the most well-regarded resorts in Scottsdale. If you are looking for a romantic winter getaway, a poolside staycation, or just want to taste some delicious food, the Royal Palms has it all.

Rooms

We stayed in a 560-square-foot Estate Suite featuring a master bedroom with a king-size bed and a separate living area. However, the bathroom was the area I found unique!

The bathroom had a standalone bathtub for soaking and relaxing. The shower had a steam feature, which turned an ordinary shower into a full-blown sauna. The mirror also made me look fabulous. Not sure where they buy those, but I’ve gotta get one for my house… It was an instant self-confidence booster!

We were also fortunate to stay in room 317 with a fantastic balcony view of a quiet pool and Camelback Mountain. When you book your stay, try to reserve either 316, 317, or 318. All three are on the top floor with breathtaking views!

When we weren’t in the sauna, tub, or on the balcony, the king-size bed was too comfy to leave. Lucky for us, they have a TV in both the bedroom and the living area, so we were able to watch countless TV shows and have a movie marathon.

Property

Several additions have been made since the Cooke family’s original home was built. The resort has enough amenities, so you never have to leave the property.

Boasting Scottsdale’s most romantic restaurant (T. Cook’s), a poolside bar and grill (Cabana Cafe), and a more upscale resort bar and grill (the Mix Up Bar), you will not be wanting for food. The Royal Palms Resort also offers fantastic room service. If you are hungry, you will be hard-pressed to find better dining options in the entire city.

If you want to work off those extra calories, Royal Palms has a 24/7 two-story fitness center at your service. If you want to continue to pamper yourself, the Alvadora Spa is the place to go for all your massages, facials, pedicures, and manicures.

Since it was June in Arizona, the pool was by far the most popular area of the resort. Of course, the best way to cool down is lounging by the pool with a frozen drink in hand.

T. Cooks Restuarant

T.Cook’s is the “main” restaurant on the property. They serve breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner, with indoor seating and two outdoor patios. We did our best to explore all the restaurant had to offer!

For breakfast, we tried the assorted fruits and croissants. Both were light, refreshing, and delicious.

For brunch, we went a bit heavier, diving into the Avocado Toast and Sticky Bun. While the Avocado Toast was delicious (and much healthier), the Sticky Bun was the real winner. I’ve never tasted such a sweet and scrumptious delight in my life!

For dinner, we started with a few cocktails, as everyone should on their birthday weekend. (Oops, did I forget to mention it was my birthday??). The charming waitstaff brought out some delicious, complimentary bread and pesto, which we easily finished and requested more! After our second round of bread, we dove into the main courses: Handmade Forest Mushroom Lasagna and their Grilled All-Natural Mary’s Chicken. Both exceed our expectations. However, we weren’t done yet. Onto dessert! While we could barely move from all of the food, we had to try the cheesecake, which we quickly demolished because it was so tasty. You can guess, at the end of the meal, we were beyond full and well beyond satisfied.

Alvadora Spa

There’s not much else that takes you out of the ordinary and into full-blown vacation mode than a massage. The Alvadora Spa is well known in the valley (and nationally; it was recently honored with the 2018 Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star Award) for its attention to the details that make up your spa experience.

We went for the couples massage. Our masseuses were Rachel and Hannelore. They did a fantastic job of getting both my husband (it was his first massage) and me relaxed and into vacation mode.

What blew me away was the spa’s atmosphere. We were lucky to be in a room with a tub, French doors to a private jacuzzi, and beautiful interior stonework. It was a dream relaxation space.

Out of the 88 rooms (and four suites) at the AC Hotel by Marriott Panama City, I had the luxury of staying in the Guest Room.

The Guest Rooms feature either one king bed or two queen beds, contemporary decor, luxury bedding, flat-panel TVs, and full windows with breathtaking views of the surrounding high-rises.

Other amenities include a mini-refrigerator, marble bathroom, air conditioning, two complimentary bottles of water, pay movies, a safe, a coffee maker, a desk, a seating area, a hairdryer, an iron, and free high-speed Internet access.

I loved the room’s modern minimalism. It was a comfortable area to unwind and relax. Life seems calmer inside your room, even as you glance out upon the busy city. With tones of charcoal and brown, the sleek, bespoke style of AC Hotels shines through as you drink and breathe in the cityscape.

Property

The clean exterior of the AC Hotel Panama City shines as you approach. You will first notice the bright white exterior, contrasted by the deep shades of brown and gray that accent the entry and front desk. This urban design is flawless (like all AC Hotels).

Some of the amenities you will find on the property include a top-notch fitness center, a rooftop infinity pool that overlooks The Financial District, Historical Casco Viejo, and the Pacific Ocean, an on-site restaurant, spa, and complimentary underground parking.

Whether you are a business traveler looking to close the next big deal or a family exploring the highlights of Panama, this AC Hotel is the perfect hotel for you! A quick cab to some of the best restaurants, nightlife spots, and tourist locations (like the Panama Canal) makes the AC Hotel Panama City a fantastic hotel.

Rooftop Pool & Bar

If you’re looking for the best view in Panama City, head to the AC hotel’s rooftop pool.

Cool down in the infinity-edge pool or heat things up in the hot tub. No matter which you choose, you’ll be able to enjoy the incredible Panama City cityscape!

While the rooftop is quite compact, the pool is best enjoyed in the morning. During the afternoon, the sun tends to hide behind the surrounding skyscrapers, so wake up early and get your tan on! Of course, the hot tub is perfect all day and night.

As a bonus, you can grab a few drinks at the Rooftop Lounge Bar to help get you into the vacation mood.

AC Kitchen & Lounge

The AC Kitchen, located on the first floor of the AC Hotel, is an excellent option for breakfast and lunch. They offer a European-inspired breakfast buffet and tapas lunch with fantastic cocktails. Every morning I looked forward to sampling different foods from the buffet before heading to the pool or out on the city for exploring!

The AC Library and Bar, located on the first floor of the AC Hotel, is the perfect place to meet with friends while enjoying cocktails and a variety of tapas. While there are many delicious dishes, you must try the shrimp! Throughout my stay, I sampled one of each of their dishes. The shrimp was a favorite, but nothing was a bad choice by any means!

I loved the modern decor and minimalism of the room. It was a comfortable area to unwind, but at the same time, the simple interior and mute colors juxtaposed the liveliness happening all around San Juan. Just hearing the hustle and bustle from your balcony adds to your eagerness to go out and explore the surrounding area. I appreciate the hotel’s intent to provide guests with a modern, comfortable stay while using those same tools to encourage guest to experience the colorful culture and environment of San Juan.

Property

When you enter the AC Hotel San Juan’s lobby, you will first notice the modern decor with mixed natural colors —from deep grey and charcoal tones to layers of graceful creams. The contemporary style circulates throughout the entire hotel from each open-aired rooms to the all-white rooftop pool. This urban design is flawless, ideal for both leisure and business travelers alike.

Some of the amenities you will find on the property include a top-notch fitness center, rooftop pool that overlooks San Juan and the Caribbean Sea, three on-site restaurants, seven event rooms, and a resort-style convenience store.

Not only does the hotel offer luxury accommodations and amenities, but the hotel is close to some of the best restaurants, attractions, and nightlife in the Condado District. Plus, you are only a short distance from the beach, Old San Juan, the Financial District, and Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport.

This AC Hotel positively is the perfect hotel for anyone wanting a well-rounded experience of San Juan.

If you’re looking for some serious RNR, head to the hotel’s pool.

The AC Hotel San Juan is about a 5-minute walk from the Condado Beach, so it was important to provide guests with an exceptional recreational area. Not only did they design a fantastic pool and outdoor lounge, but they did so on the hotel’s rooftop!

The panoramic views of the Condado District and the Caribbean Sea are quite stunning and a reason alone to stay at the AC Hotel.

White lounge chairs, umbrellas, and cabanas surround the rectangular, aqua-colored pool. Even though it is on a rooftop, there is quite a lot of space, so it never feels crowded.

As a bonus, you can even grab a couple of drinks at the bar next to the AC Kitchen. Did someone say, “Pina Coladas?”

The AC Kitchen, located on the top floor of AC Hotel, is an excellent option for breakfast and lunch. They offer a European inspired breakfast buffet ($18 USD) and tapas lunch with the possibility of dining indoor or outdoor. Every morning I looked forward to sampling different foods from the buffet while soaking up the incredible views from the rooftop seating area.

The AC Lounge and Bar, located on the bottom floor of the AC Hotel, is the perfect place to meet with friends while enjoying cocktails and a variety of tapas. While there are many delicious dishes, you must try the flatbread! I can honestly say that it was the most delicious flatbreads I’ve ever tasted.

Also, right next to the AC Lounge is a casual cafe, Sobao By Los Cidrines. It’s the perfect place to grab a quick cup of coffee and pastries.

If you’re looking for one of the best hotels in San Juan Puerto Rico, I highly recommend staying at AC Hotel San Juan Condado!

Rooms

Out of the 503 rooms and suites at the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino, I had the pleasure of staying in the colorful Superior Room.

The Superior Room features beige carpets and upholstered headboards, white linens, white and wooden furnishings, and orange accent walls. It has 2 ultra-comfortable Sheraton Signature beds, an ADA-Compliant shower with bath and extra space, stunning balcony views of San Juan Bay and the Puerto Rico Convention Center, a state-of-the-art safe lock key card system, a coffee maker, 40-inch flat-screen TV, and High-Speed Internet Access.

Since I am constantly working, it was so refreshing to have WiFi that really was high speed! Too many times I’ve stayed somewhere where I could only find a connection to the Internet in the lobby. But at the Sheraton, once you connect, you will stay connected anywhere on the property.

Property

The Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino opened in 2009 with the intent to provide accommodations for those attending the Puerto Rico Convention Center. This specific Sheraton property is unlike others as it is more upscale, contemporary, modern, and fresh, while providing guests with everything for business and entertainment.

On the fourth floor of the hotel, guests will discover an infinity-edge pool that overlooks the bay and San Juan Cruise Port.

There are two shallow areas within the pool as well as a longer section perfect for swimming laps. Around the pool deck are lounge chairs, pool cabanas, and a jacuzzi.

As a bonus, if you are getting hungry or would like a drink, the Bay Pool Bar & Grill is at your service. I highly recommend trying their delicious guacamole and the Margarita Sombrero. Both are delightful and, let’s face it, you shouldn’t have one without the other!

Choices and The District Lounge & Sushi Bar

Choices, located on the bottom floor of the Sheraton Puerto Rico, is the go-to restaurants for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. At this casual urban bistro, Executive Chef, Jannette Berrios, does a fabulous job featuring traditional favorites with a Puerto Rican twist.

For dinner, I was lucky enough to try a variety of new dishes on the menu such as the fish tacos, lechon croquette, urban fajitas, and barrilito pudding. Everything really was scrumptious —especially the lechon croquettes. It was my first time trying them and I couldn’t get enough!

The District Lounge & Sushi Bar, located on the bottom floor of the Sheraton Puerto Rico, provides guests with a sophisticated yet relaxed setting for cocktails and a quick bite.

I personally loved the atmosphere at this lounge, especially after a drink or two following a long day out and about in San Juan. Also, can we just take a moment to admire the ‘out of this world’ light fixture hanging above the bar???

Zen Spa Retreat

After a full day of traveling and another full day walking around Old San Juan, my body was in serious need of relaxation. Lucky for me, the Sheraton hosts the Zen Spa Retreat, located on the third floor of the hotel.

As I entered the Zen Spa, a wave of calmness washed over me. The dimly lit lobby, soothing smells, and friendly receptionists provide a tranquil atmosphere, which continues throughout the spa experience.

The Spa features eight treatment rooms, two VIP suites, a Vichy shower, men’s and women’s locker rooms with saunas and steam rooms, two relaxation lounges, and a tea room. Available treatments include massages, facials, body wraps, and hair or nail services. A select number of zen stone treatments that use natural elements like basalt lava, marble, and jade stones are also offered.

During my time at the spa, I enjoyed a hot stone massage, the sauna, the relaxation lounge, and a glass of champagne. The experience was far better than I could have imaged as I left with a feeling of ease and serenity.

The Funkiest Loft In Town

Introducing the bright bohemian Funky Loft in Brooklyn, NY!

It is a newly renovated loft in a 1920s industrial building located in Brooklyn’s artsy neighborhood of Bushwick. The vintage details, huge windows, skylights, and a mixture of colors all help to create a charming atmosphere.

Cozy Rooms

The Funky Loft has 3 rooms and a loft (where the hosts stay).

While there, of course, I had to stay in a room that reminded me of a tropical getaway. The bedspread was covered with large green banana leaves, a bamboo bookshelf, and twinkle lights. Good vibes only!

I shared this room with a friend of mine, and we had enough room for two carry-on luggage and two large checked bags! Also, the full-sized bed was unbelievably comfortable (with a new memory foam mattress)!

This room has a sliding barn door, so there is no lock. However, have no fear. Our hosts were home most of the time, and the other guests in the loft were kind, considerate, and sweet!

Behind the pink-and-yellow door is another room the hosts call a ‘NY Backpacker’s Dream.’ It is the only bedroom with a lock and key.

The room is very spacious. Not only is there space to hang your clothes, but there is also room beneath the bed to store whatever you like. The twin-sized memory foam mattress fits perfectly between 2 walls (see picture) and is 74 inches long. It is approximately 36 inches off the ground with a step stool to get up, so there is 36 inches of space underneath.

My favorite part about this room was the two windows that open to the outside. This made for some gorgeous natural light, perfect for reading during the day and watching the moon from your bed at night.

Another guest occupied the third room while we were there, so I could not take photos; however, here is some information about it in case you’re interested in staying!

This room has a window that opens into the living room and a sliding barn door. It has a full memory foam mattress, a full-length mirror, exposed brick, and a built-in shelf. Perfect for one or two people!

Kitschy 1970’s Themed Bathroom

Only one bathroom is on the premises, so each guest and the host must share it.

Since you are sharing, it’s important to respect the rules. For example, if you use your toiletries, please store them in your room. Having 5-8 different toiletries all over the bathroom would be very difficult.

The hosts are kind enough to include towels, Q-Tips, cotton swabs, an iron, a hair blow dryer, shampoo & conditioner, body wash, and tampons/pads!

While smaller, I loved this bathroom for its amazing jungle theme! How cute is the wallpaper??

Marcella was an Airbnb host in LA for 4 years and was featured in their magazine at the ‘AirBNB Open’ in November 2016! She lives in The Funky Loft in Brooklyn with her boyfriend, Antonio, so a host will always be present. Antonio is an artist from Portugal. Both are very welcoming and love sharing their home.

Where did you get the idea to start The Funky Loft?

I had a loft in Downtown LA that I could not afford to live in, but it was my dream loft… I immediately started renting the extra rooms on Airbnb to help pay my rent, and we started being fully booked year-round! As it got more popular and I started booking photo and film shoots in the space, I wanted to give it a name, and The Funky Loft just fit!

What is your favorite part about The Funky Loft?

I love that my home draws people from all corners of the world. The loft is my style and my design, and I made it so that I like where I live. Having people stay with us because it’s their aesthetic also reminds me that we’re all so similar, even if we’re from Bali, Norway, or Tennessee.

What do you love about being a host?

Similar to the above, I would like to meet people from all over the world! We have guests from places I dream of visiting, and I get to talk to them about the best local spots to visit when I’m there. The loft brings so much culture, and I love being surrounded by it.

The best restaurant nearby?

It’s not really a restaurant, but they have food… Little Skips! It’s our neighborhood cafe, and it’s my favorite place to bring my laptop to work. Plus they have the best sandwiches and my favorite…Thai Tea.

What is a must-do on Saturday night in Brooklyn or NYC?

Oof, that’s a hard one. It depends on what kind of person you are, but for me, it’s going swing dancing at one of the many swing pop-ups every week. And of course, just walking around the village and people watching.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

Well, not so much anymore, but I used to hula-hoop and fire-hoop. I still have some of my old hoops tucked away in the loft. I also played Softball for 9 years and was on the All-Star team for 4 years.

Many people come to take photos at the Funky Loft. Is anyone famous???

Grace Vaanderwaal had a shoot in the loft, and she was so incredibly adorable! And back when the loft was in LA, Zendaya shot a commercial there.

The Ocean View Room has 2 queen beds, pillowtop mattresses topped with soft duvets, a large bathroom with a tub, free wifi, air conditioning, a coffee machine, a mini fridge, and an LCD TV. Renaissance Curaçao even offers a complimentary evening turndown service, during which they leave 2 pieces of milk chocolate! Yum!!!

However, the best part of my room was the amazing ocean view from the spacious balcony. I truly enjoyed watching the colorful sunsets every evening, wearing my bathrobe and holding a cocktail.

Property

Built around the historic Rif Fort – a 19th-century landmark designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site – Renaissance Curaçao is a unique resort that offers something for everyone. With a casino, gym, infinity pool, beach, a variety of shops along the open-air boulevard, and many restaurants, the possibilities at Renaissance Curaçao are endless.

The hotel itself is comfy with colorful modern decorations and Dutch influences. My favorite part was the amazing oval chandelier in the middle of the lobby! It was a combination of hanging crystal strands and lights. I wish I had a picture to show you, but since I don’t, you’ll just have to go and see it for yourself!

Plus, for all you coffee lovers, there is a Starbucks on the second floor AND another one just a 1-minute walk from the hotel. No matter where you are around the property, you can get your coffee fix.

Nautilus Restaurant and Infinity Beach Bar

Nautilus Restaurant, located on the bottom floor of Renaissance Curaçao, is the perfect place to taste local cuisine. They offer both buffet and à la carte dining indoors or outdoors. My personal favorite was the buffet since I had the opportunity to sample many different dishes, both local and international. Plus, they change the buffet menu every day, so you’ll always have something new to try!

Infinity Beach Bar, located on the second floor of Renaissance Curaçao by the infinity pool, offers casual dining and serves the best cocktails! Definitely dine here for an amazing ocean view at sunset and delicious fresh fish.

Infinity Pool and Beach

One of the best features of Renaissance Curaçao is the infinity pool and beach!

The hotel is situated along a section of the island where there is no natural beach. As a solution, the resort created a beach and pool on the hotel’s second-floor deck.

This long stretch of white sand, lined with palm trees, is equipped with lounge chairs and huts. As an added luxury, you can grab some food and cocktails at the Infinity Beach Bar.

The pool itself is unique. They actually pump up real saltwater into the pool and have sand on the bottom to mimic the ocean! However, if you swim to the edge of the pool, you will find yourself above the natural sea, overlooking choppy waves.
