Jacob’s Well is a deep natural spring located in Wimberley, Texas, inside the Jacob’s Well Natural Area. It’s part of the 81-acre nature park that surrounds it, and it’s known for its stunning clear water and unique underwater cave system. The water comes from the Trinity Aquifer deep underground and feeds into Cypress Creek. Even on the hottest summer days, the water stays cool, around 68°F year-round. That’s perfect for a dip during Texas summers.

This place isn’t just a pretty spring. It’s got some history, too. Back in the 1850s, a settler named William C. Winters followed the creek to see where the water was coming from. He found this deep, bubbling pool and thought it looked like the wells mentioned in the Bible. That’s how Jacob’s Well got its name, from the Gospel of John.
The well’s first vertical chamber goes 23 feet down and then connects to deeper, underwater caves. Altogether, the cave system drops about 140 feet. That’s like a 14-story building hidden underground! People once used this as a reliable water source, but heavy water usage over the years has slowed the natural spring. It no longer bubbles above the surface, but if you look closely, you can still see ripples where the water flows out.

One of the best things about visiting Jacob’s Well is how easy it is to access. The walk from the parking lot to the spring is less than half a mile, about 1,300 feet. Normally, swimming is open from May 1st through September 30th, and it’s one of the top reasons people visit. If you’re reading this in season and swimming is allowed, you’ll need to make a reservation in advance. You can book it directly on the Jacob’s Well reservation page. It gets crowded, especially in the summer, so I recommend grabbing the earliest time slot available.

If swimming is off-limits, don’t worry. There’s still plenty to do.
Jacob’s Well Natural Area has multiple hiking trails that are good for all skill levels. You can stroll through scenic areas with shady trees, open views of the creek, and educational signs about local wildlife and plants. It’s peaceful, easy to navigate, and kid-friendly. And honestly, sometimes not swimming means fewer crowds and more relaxing time just taking in the view.
From October to April, they offer free guided tours twice a month on Saturday mornings. These are led by knowledgeable guides who explain the geology, plants, and animals in the area. It’s worth joining if you’re curious and want a deeper understanding of what makes Jacob’s Well so unique.
Also, on the first Saturday of the non-swimming months, you can bring your kids for Free Family Fun Days. There are crafts, games, and guided kid-friendly hikes run by volunteers. It’s hands-on and perfect for keeping kids engaged without screen time.

If you do happen to visit during swim season when the well is open, always follow the safety rules. The water is deep, and the drop-off can be sudden. There are no lifeguards on duty, so keep an eye on children at all times. Jumping into the well can look fun, but only do it if you’re a strong swimmer and feel confident.
Outside of swim season, stick to the marked trails and watch your footing around rocky areas. It’s a natural environment, and part of the beauty is letting it stay untouched.

]]>Springtime in Dallas, Texas – the sun is shining, birds are chirping, and flowers are blooming. While bluebonnets are the most popular flowers to blossom this time of year, Texans will soon know all about the beautiful tulip farm in Pilot Point, Texas.
Texas Tulips is a family owned and operated business that supplies tulips and bulb planting services. However, from February through April, they open their farm to the public and allow visitors to enjoy the tulip fields in bloom. Additionally, you have the option to hand-pick tulips and bring them back home!
I stopped by Texas Tulips at the end of March and can say it is my favorite Springtime activity in the DFW area. I encourage you to check it out! But before you go, here is some information about the farm and a few things I’ve learned from my first visit.

The History of the Tulip Farm

The story of Texas Tulips begins over forty years ago in Holland or the Netherlands. Piet and Alfra Koeman had a horticultural farm with several greenhouses that included onions, leeks, chrysanthemums, irises, and tulips. Over the years, they became experts in tulips and were well known for producing ‘early’ tulips, which allowed customers to enjoy these beautiful flowers as early as December.
When Piet passed away in 2011, his son, Pieter, decided to chase his dreams of living in the United States. After some research, he discovered a place that would allow him to continue his family’s business and make the perfect home for his family: Pilot Point, Texas. This charming countryside town had fertile soil and beautiful weather during the Spring – two necessary ingredients for growing tulips.
So in 2015, the Koeman family moved from the Netherlands to Pilot Point and opened Texas Tulips.
The farm has now been operating for more than four years and continues to draw in new visitors each season. People from all over the South come to experience a piece of the Netherlands right here in Texas.

Absolutely! That’s the main thing I love about Texas Tulips. On top of being able to enjoy the tulips, you can pick some and bring them home with you for the price of $2.50 per stem. Once you’re ready to go, head to a booth and they will put the stems in gel and wrap your tulips in colorful paper. Oh, they also provide baskets for you to place the picked tulips in while you wander around the fields.

When Is The Best Time To Visit?
Once Texas Tulips opens for the season, there isn’t a wrong time to visit. To guarantee blooms late in the season, the Koeman family specifically plants late blooming tulips. So if you go at the beginning or end of the season, you’ll still see some gorgeous flowers.
If you want to skip the crowds, I recommend visiting on a weekday and right when they open at 10:00 am.

What Should I Bring?
If you go on a sunny day, I recommend sunblock, a hat, and a water bottle. Because Pilot Point is windy, many people feel cool and forget about the effects of the sun. After four hours of wandering around the fields (with no shade) I had a sunburn. Luckily I brought a hat to cover my face, but my shoulders were fried. Put on sunblock before you go and carry a water bottle to keep yourself hydrated.
