The Rock of Cashel 🏰 Set on a dramati The Rock of Cashel 🏰

Set on a dramatic outcrop of limestone in the Golden Vale, The Rock of Cashel, iconic in its historic significance, possesses the most impressive cluster of medieval buildings in Ireland. Among the monuments to be found there is a round tower, a high cross, a Romanesque chapel, a Gothic cathedral, an abbey, the Hall of the Vicars Choral and a fifteenth-century Tower House.

Here’s a bit of its early history:
- Originally the seat of the kings of Munster, according to legend St. Patrick himself came here to convert King Aenghus to Christianity in the 5th century.
- In 978, Brian Boru was crowned High King on Ireland at Cashel and made it his capital.
- In 1101, the site was granted to the church and Cashel swiftly rose to prominence as one of the most significant centres of ecclesiastical power in the country.

Food of Ireland 🇮🇪 Ireland might b Food of Ireland 🇮🇪

Ireland might be know for their Guinness, but their food was also BANGING! Swipe through to see some of the yummy meals we had! ➡️

Here’s where we had some of our favorite meals:

✨ Quays Irish Restaurant in Dublin
✨ Jacob’s Ladder Restaurant in Cobh
✨ The Brehon Hotel in Killarney
✨ The Ivy Cottage in Doolin
✨ Veldons Seafarer Bar and Restaurant in Letterfrack
✨ Lough Eske Castle in Donegal
✨ Spice Templepatrick in Muckamore (near Belfast)
✨ The Matt Ryan Bar in Grand Hotel in Malahide

While all these places had fantastic food, we had the best meal at The Ivy Cottage. The food was to die for, the staff were incredibly friendly, and the restaurant was so quaint and had a delightful atmosphere. Their Atlantic clam chowder soup and goat cheese salad were amazing. Be sure to swing by if you’re around Doolin and the Cliffs of Moher.

Spice Templepatrick is also another hidden gem! We stumbled upon it because we arrived to out Aribnb late when everything was closed but this Indian restaurant was open, so we decided to give it a try. To this day, it’s some of the best Chicken Tikka Masala and Naan.

But I must say, Irish breakfast is probably my favorite thing in the world. Give me sausage, eggs, potatoes, beans, mushrooms, and toast. 🤤

The love story of Kylemore Castle 💔 Whil The love story of Kylemore Castle 💔

While it has been a Benedictine Abbey since 1920, this structure was built in 1871 by Mitchell Henry for his wife Margaret. Swipe to see photos of this stunning home. ➡️

They lived here together for three years until tragedy struck. The Henry family departed Kylemore for a luxurious holiday in Egypt where Margaret contracted a fever and died. Her body was embalmed in Cairo and returned to Kylemore, where according to local lore, she lay in a glass coffin beneath the grand staircase in the front hall, where family and tenants alike could come to pay their respects.

Mitchell was heartbroken by the death of his wife and never remarried. He later built a neo-Gothic church (last photo on the post) as a beautiful and lasting testament to his love for Margaret.

Her body was later placed in a red brick mausoleum in the woodlands of Kylemore near the church, and Mitchell later joined her after his death.

Belfast Castle 🏰 Built in 1870, Belfa Belfast Castle 🏰

Built in 1870, Belfast castle is built on top of a hill that overlooks the city of Belfast. And while it’s called a castle, it’s really more of a Victorian-styled mansion.

It was quite pretty, but it’s a bit ‘newer’, so you don’t really get the same experience as other older structures. It’s a fine place to stop by, but honestly, not really worth it if you’re itinerary is packed. If you’re short on time in Belfast, I’d recommend visiting the Titanic Museum (which I’ll discuss in a later post).

Giants Causeway 🌋 Located on the nort Giants Causeway 🌋

Located on the north coast of Northern Ireland is an area with around 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic fissure eruption. Most of the columns are hexagonal and the tallest are about 12 metres (39 ft) high, and the solidified lava in the cliffs is 28 metres (92 ft) thick in places. It’s such a unique place that you simply cannot miss, so be sure to add this UNESCO World Heritage Site to your bucketlist!

Tickets to visit are £15.50 during peak season and they can sell out, so I recommend booking in advanced.

Kerry Cliffs 🦙 These cliffs are stunning Kerry Cliffs 🦙

These cliffs are stunning, and a beautiful place to enjoy the fresh air. Standing over 1000ft above the Atlantic, they were formed in a desert environment 400 million years ago. If you look hard enough in the photo (right hand side on the horizon), you can also see the Skellig Islands, which is home to many puffins and has an early Christian monestary that was the film location for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Also, as you walk up to the cliffs from the parking lot, you’ll see some alpacas on the side of the trail, which was an adorable surprise.

✨ The Dark Edges ✨ Here’s the truth a ✨ The Dark Edges ✨

Here’s the truth about this location:

It is a really beautiful tunnel of trees. However, it’s definitely NOT a must see for your average tourist. I’d only really recommending stopping by if you’re a photographer or if you’re a huge Game of Thrones fan wanting to see a film location.

We went at the very end of the day and there were still quite a few people and even a couple taking their wedding photos. So unless you have the patience and time to wait around for the road to clear, you most likely won’t get the photos you’ve come there for.

I’m glad we stopped by since we were driving from Giant’s Causeway to Belfast, but it’s not something I’d need to see again.

Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge in Northern Ireland Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge in Northern Ireland ☘️

Suspended almost 100ft above the Atlantic Ocean, the crossing was first erected in 1755 and covers a chasm connecting to the rocky island of Carrick-a-Rede. The sole building on the island is a fisherman’s cottage and in its early days, the bridge was used by salmon fishermen.

The bridge is a short scenic 15 minute walk from the parking lot. If you plan on crossing the bridge, tickets are £14.00 (parking included), but if not, you still have to pay the £10 parking fee.

Would you cross the bridge???
